On the verandah

Coffee first.

A coffee sign over the door, a chalkboard by the post, painted stools on the boards and whatever the season brings in a pile by the step.

Inside

Whatever you need, we supply.

Their words, and they mean it: groceries and pantry staples, the papers and magazines, local honey, eggs, preserves and ready meals made down the road.

The bread shelf

Sourdough from Berry bakery.

Berry bakery supplies their sourdough, cakes, quiches and apple pies. Worried you will miss out? Pop an order in by phone.

The bench

Baked here.

Almond croissants, babka, rugelach, tarts and slices, house made, and on their page fresh from the oven.

From their own trees

Mandarin season.

When their trees come in, the fruit goes into citrus tarts, almond and mandarin biscuits and chilli jam, and out the door by the bag. Easy peel, no seeds.

From the bench

Croissants on a Thursday. Babka by the tin.

Every bake on this wall came off their bench and onto their page in the last year, with the words they posted it with. Throw it sideways, tap one for the story.

An aisle of the store: newspapers and magazines on the rack, greeting cards, bananas and crates of produce.

The newsagency

Papers.
Magazines.
Cards.
Bananas.

The newsagency half of the name is real: the papers and magazines sit in the same aisle as the fruit, the cards and the pantry staples, so the morning run is one stop.

Skeeter, a grey and white cat, sitting in the timber newspaper rack. A sign on the rack reads Hello my name is Skeeter.

Front of house

Hello, my name is Skeeter.

That is what the sign on the newspaper rack says, and Skeeter is the face on the store’s own Facebook page. Mind the papers.
